Can patients continue with current medications and treatments while on hospice care?
Hospice patients can continue their current treatments that relieve symptoms and improve quality of life. If you have questions about specific medications or therapies, please speak with the clinician who conducts your evaluation prior to hospice services.
Are medications covered by the cost of hospice care?
Yes, hospice provides medications related to the hospice diagnosis to control symptoms.
How long can I be on hospice?
There is no limit to the time a patient can be on hospice. Generally, hospice is for patients who are expected to live six months or less. However, hospice can be extended if it remains appropriate. Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions about this.
What does hospice provide?
In addition to medications, hospice care provides home medical equipment and supplies such as shower chairs, hospital beds, incontinence supplies and much more.
Who pays for hospice care?
The majority of hospice patients do not have any out-of-pocket expenses. Medicare fully covers hospice care and most private insurance plans also fully cover hospice care, including home visits, medications, supplies, and equipment related to the terminal diagnosis.
